Kairos is a collaborative multimedia concert utilizing clarinet (Dylan Findley) and saxophone (Drew Hosler) with live electronics and two projected video screens. The goal of the concert is to experiment with music in an interdisciplinary context through visuals and even some pantomiming.

Named after the Greek word that translates roughly to “the opportune moment,” each piece in the concert relates to time, opportunity, and memory in some way. The composers on the concert are also people with whom Findley had opportune moments of belonging and connection. The premiere concert on April 2nd, 2024 (7:30pm) at the College of Wooster Shoolroy Theatre includes the following works:

Zwischenraum by Ingrid Stölzel (performance and video by Dylan Findley)

Echoes of Yesterday by Mark Volker (video by Jacob Lyon, performance by Dylan Findley)

Stories Secrets, and Forgotten Wisdom by Cara Haxo (video by Thom Haxo, performance by Drew Hosler)

Improvisation Kairos, led by Monte Taylor (improvised live video by Jacob Lyon and Will Sieber, performance by Monte Taylor, Chi Ting Chan, Mark Volker, and Dylan Findley)

—Intermission—

Tempora mutantur by Chin Ting Chan (performance and video by Dylan Findley)

A Real Buster by Dylan Findley (performance by Drew Hosler, video by Dylan Findley

Many thanks go out to the many collaborators on this project, especially Drew Hosler for whom the concert was built around. Another special thanks to Jacob Lyon, Findley’s sophomore research assistant, to help with the video for Echoes of Yesterday listed above along with operating the computers during the performance itself. Lyon not only learned the Max software largely on his own but managed to make a compelling artistic project, all within the space of two months.

This concert represents a first for Findley to perform the solo music of others in a professional context and to create video content for other musicians. He looks forward to future collaborations with composers in these new extensions of his professional artistic identity.
